Find your AKU size & fit
EMBRACE THE OUTDOORS
Measure both feet in centimetres — length and width. We use the longer foot and add 1 cm of toe room: a buffer that allows for natural foot swelling and stops your toes hitting the front of the boot on descents.
How to measure — length & width (2 minutes)
Foot length
- Place a sheet of paper on the floor against a wall.
- Stand with your heel against the wall, foot flat, weight on the foot.
- Mark the tip of your longest toe, then measure wall-to-mark in cm.
- Repeat for the other foot — enter both below; we use the longer one.
Foot width (the important one)
- With your foot flat on the paper, find the widest part — usually across the ball, at the base of the toes.
- Mark the widest point on each side and measure straight across in cm.
- Measure both feet; enter the wider measurement.
Measure at the end of the day, when feet are at their largest, wearing the socks you'll hike in. Your width is compared against the standard for your exact foot length, so the guidance is specific to your foot — not a generic category.
What "Wide" means at AKU
AKU's standard last is a close, precise fit (about 2 mm narrower than a typical UK D). A Wide (EE) AKU model adds roughly 5 mm across the ball of the foot (≈2 mm overall) — room exactly where a broad forefoot needs it. A wide foot is solved by a Wide fit, not a longer size.
